a proud memorial day

so today I had to take my daughter Miranda to the airport to send her back to New Mexico. The more I get to know this young the more I fall in love with her. She is bright, full of energy and loving. and to make this memorial day more special (not that it isnt already) I can proudly say I have a daughter serving in the armed forces. She is in the Army National Guard. and I was so tickled when she called me from the airport and when she checked in giving her military ID the airline upgraded both her flights to first class! She felt so special and then during her almost 3 hr layover in Denver she checked out the USO in the airport for the first time and was excited to have done it.

I have always been proud that my Dad served this country and now I am double proud that I have a daughter doing so also!

So thank you to all our armed forces serving today or in the past, making sure that we are a free country and fighting to keep us all safe!

bad days with bright spots

today started out bad.....rain heading our way and me predicting it with the pain in my joints (like granny from the beverly hillbillies LOL) and my first task of the day was to tackle the health insurance. I cant say alot of nice things about our new President but what he has passed for Cobra is good.....especially since so many of his (and the congress) policies are causing so many lost jobs (for sure in the oilfield). anyway his new cobra policy makes it so that the former employee pays 35% of the cobra amt and the govt will pick up the rest and then once back to work depending on the amt of the yr gross earned you may have to pay some of it back. Well anyway, our cobra payment is over $1000 a month (insane for people who are unemployed) but with the new law we should only pay$400. Now if the people handling the insurance at the former employer new what the hell they were doing this would be fine. but they have only two answers for me...."we are constantly in touch with the insurance company trying to find the solution" and "pay the first amt and we will refund the difference when we figure it out" UM.........HELL NO! So I said I will send the 35% and she says she cant accept that. So I said put that in writing cuz I am not losing my coverage because you dont know what your doing. with as nice a tone as I could muster. I was totally pissed! I hate stupid!

but on the lighter side of my day it is warm and cool enough to open the windows and doors and enjoy the spring weather. I got to watch Ryan on the patio painting pictures and drawing with chalk on his easel. and while he was out there I got to mop the floors (even tho its gonna rain for the next 3 days and the kids will track the chalk back in again LOL but for now I have clean floors and it inspired me to pull the cover for the couch off and wash it. its looking pretty good in here and smells that wonderful clean sent that will disappear as soon as the kids get home hahaha

also news on the new rule of "no more sleeping in Mommy and Daddy's bed" Now that Jim is not on the road 3 wks of the month he has put his foot down (and he doesnt do that often) and unless they are very ill, there will be no children in our room at bedtime. So the first 2 nights Ryan came out of his room probably 15 times and when that didnt work he screamed (and I mean SCREAMED!) for upwards of 2 hrs "Mommy please I need You!" Now for those of you who know me well Know that killed me to listen too. I went in only once to assure him I was in my room and would be here when he woke up. It was torture for me and I am sure our upstairs neighbors (yikes!) Last nite being the third night he only came out for another hug and a goodnight kiss twice and cried (not screamed) for around 45 minutes. So I guess its getting better and I am gonna stay firm and be strong, knowing that he is just fine and he needs to be more independent. But let me tell you there is another part of me that is screaming go get him, snuggle him close and dont let go ;)

So goes the life of the Oilman

Havent blogged in a long time but in my defense life has been doing its best to keep us jumping. So here is our update in a nutshell....

First lets get the bad out of the way. My husband was layed off. It sucks!!! Since our wonderful new democratic congress took over they waited a whole 24 hrs before repealing a bill Bush put in effect thus canceling tons of new exploration. Then they systematically repealed govt leases. The oilfield is expecting a larger crash than that of the early 80's. So hubby is trying very hard to find work in Houston....hell in the U.S......but its not looking good. So he has several great leads over seas and it looks really like its gonna be one of them. I just thank God that I talked him out of going to Nigeria! WHEW!!!!

Now for the good news. Marissa had a talent show at her school and she and her bf Ashton were in it. Marissa sang a Cheetah girl song and Ashton danced. It was cute and we were very proud of her for doing it. Marissa also got new glasses which are now deep purple with her only requirement....RHINESTONES!!! LOL Both kids completed and lived thru the week of Taks testing. (for those of you who dont live in Texas that is the wonderful standerdized tests the get the kids all stressed out about) Marissa also had her school open house this week and her reading teacher showed me a short story Marissa wrote. The teacher was so impressed she recommended it for the schools Writer's Gallery. (that is a wall for the whole school and at the end of the school year all the entries are put in a book and put in the school lounge) and it was voted in by the other reading teachers. She was so excited!

I have also been on the road alot this month. Took two trips to Lafayette. The first was for fun....MARDI GRAS! Took the kids to the parade in Carencro and then out for Crawfish...yummy, yummy! and the second trip was not for fun at all but for a funeral. That was a hard one. But glad I went.

As for the boys, Ryan is still running and running and running. (he is my personal energizer bunny) and DJ is......well ..... a teenager :( I think it is now his job to just aggravate and exhaust me just to the point where I could leave him on someone elses door step and then he turns on the charm and we keep him LOL

such is my update and I will try to get on here more often so these arent so long ;)

feeling lonely

So after only being home for 3 days my hubby has gone back to the road. I really hate that part of the job. I tried very hard not to be too sad or gloomy about him leaving cuz I dont want to stress him more or make him feel guilty for having to work. The kids hated to see him go and Ryan had to be peeled off of him screaming. which made Jim cry. I hated to see him hating to go but at the same time it was kind of nice to see how much he misses us.

So its just me and Ryan hanging out today but the weather is changing and I am already in a pretty bad flare up of my RA. I am in alot and I mean ALOT of pain. yesterday the pain got so bad it made me throw up twice. Also the bumps they call rhuematoid nodules are coming back in my legs and they hurt.

Marissa's glasses are still broken and we had to super glue them til she sees her doc on the 17th. Marissa ran a 1 mile fun run for the YMCA saturday. She did great and finished in the middle of the pack and I was just so proud she did it at all! it was great to watch and great to see her so proud of herself. she got a medal and wore it all day and even out to dinner that night.

We celebrated our tenth anniversary this past week. Jim got home just in time and we celebrated by having dinner at home with the kids and then when they went to bed we snuggled up in our bed and enjoyed a movie and a plate of assorted cookies LOL my mother says that is a sign we are getting old LMAO! and then Saturday my parents took us and the kiddos out to dinner and as payback for having the wait staff sing to them for their 40th anniversary they had them sing to us....but hey the cake was worth it!

so now I am watching sponge bob with Ryan and trying to relax and hoping to take a nap when he does ;)

my baby starts pre k wwwwaaaaaahhhhh

so been doing alot of phone work knowing the prek registration starts now. Well no way to get into the public school pre k here. they limit it big time basically to foster kids and military kids. so started calling around area private schools and OMG! the cost is outrageous!!!! some schools wanted $500 a month WTF??? its pre k not college. so got a hold of my church as a neighbor told me at the bus stop that the church had a school. well it isnt our church but the one in humble and they accept kids from our church. we are second choice after their kids in their church. so called them and found out that it is $435 a month...but the registrar called me later and informed me that they have a part time pre k that is only monday, wednesday and friday and is $350 a month. so next week I am going down and paying our $100 application fee and signing him up. I think that the part time will be best for him anyway. Unlike my older two who started preschool at 3, Ryan has been my shadow for 4 yrs and its gonna be a better fit not to throw him into full time school.

now with that done...the boys have been sick. Started with Ryan and spread to DJ. Nothing serious but a nasty cold with lots of coughing. so my home smells like vicks LOL and after a day or so of not wanting to eat they are running around and eating everything they can get their hands on today. DJ still has a little sinus headache but he desperately wants to go to a friends bday party today so he is trying very hard to act all well ;)

now to add on to my day...marissa's glasses broke this morning. the lens popped out. cant pop it back in and dont want to force it in and break the frame so gonna head to the store to get it fixed shortly.

that is it for now.....

new to this

Dont think my life is very interesting but I am really bad lately with phone calls. Sorry! Its been super busy here. Jim is out of town and will be 2 to 3 wks a month for awhile. that means for me....basically single mom. The kids have been driving me crazy with not doing their chores. I mean finally I had to start taking away ipods, tv and still today we are fighting. AUGH! I am having horrible pain lately but not alot of time to take care of me...busy making doc appts for kids. Marissa has finally got an apt with a Ophlamologist thanks to Tiffany getting me info for hers. And I am trying to track down office visit notes, mri and ct discs and such to get to the Pediatric neurosurgeon so they can asses how much Ryans cyst has grown. It has grown and is worrying us. A lump on his skull that appeared last spring is getting bigger. not gonna be surprised if he is gonna need surgery or a shunt.

Also we are trying to plan to go on a cruise for my sisters wedding in Oct. Unfortunately we had a bad travel agent to start with that gave us wrong down pmt amounts and now I will have to wait a little bit to put together the additional money I will need to get our room. but we are super excited about seeing her wedding and then spending a week with family from NY cruising the western carribean!

DJ is doing well in his new High School and in on the JV tennis team. Marissa loves her school and is also doing awesome. and Ryan and I are enjoying our last yr home together before he starts preschool next fall. We have our puggle Cajun who recently has become a fan of my coffee and those of you who know me well know how I feel about my coffee! LOL I am not sharing and its pissing me off that he gets craftier and craftier to get at my mug.

well that is it for now and tomorrow I will add more
